Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present pianist and singer-songwriter Bruce Hornsby on Saturday, March 10, at 8 p.m. in the Virginia G. Piper Theater. Bruce Hornsby and the Range skyrocketed to fame with the hit song The Way It Is, which became the most-played song on American radio in 1987, earning ASCAP’s “Song of the Year” and the Grammy Award for “Best New Artist.”  The Way It Is and such subsequent hits as Mandolin Rain and Every Little Kissquickly established Hornsby as an in-demand pop act.

Despite his early successes, Hornsby chose to pursue a more personal, idiosyncratic musical path, focusing on projects that sparked his creative interest and musical progress. That direction was manifested in his lengthy association with the Grateful Dead, with whom he has performed more than 100 concerts as guest keyboardist. He also has collaborated with Rickey Skaggs, Huey Lewis, Elton John, Branford Marsalis and Sting, to name just a few musicians.

Known for his versatility and improvisational flair, Hornsby embraces many musical styles, from classical and jazz to folk and bluegrass. This intimate solo concert features him on piano. The performance is presented with support from Nussbaum, Gillis & Dinner, P.C.
