I hope all of you sexies have a wonderful and fun-filled Thanksgiving! To that end, the Night Owl has put together some things to be thankful for around the nation and Valley; plus a review of the much ballyhooed Big Pour. To find out what happened, what’s happening and what will happen in the Valley, read on.
The Big Pour: On a glorious Saturday afternoon, what better fun that attending a beer festival? The Big Pour, put on by Draft Magazine, took place last Saturday at Hohokam Stadium; better known as the raucous spring training home for the Chicago Cubs. The Night Owl was in attendance and had a wonderful time. Held on the field of the stadium (which was cool in itself), the festival featured over 100 local, regional and national breweries. For your tickets (which started at $35), you received 10 tastings of any beer. A lot of breweries didn’t even collect your tickets, so needless to say there was plenty to drink. Some beers that stood out for me were the Kona Firerock, the Ska Brewery Special Brew and the Left Hand Brewing beer (which I forget the name of, among other things). The crowds were perfect, not too big and not too small. All types were there from serious beer aficionados to Scottsdale divas in high heels. Overall, a fun and calm crowd just kicking back and enjoying beer and sun. In addition to the beer, there were tons of drinking games to play including numerous dart boards, corn hole (or bags) boards, pool tables, ping pong tables, and yes, even beer pong tables (with some super hot referees). All in all, great times and I’ll put it on my calendar again for next year. Visit draftmag. com for more information.
5 Things To Be Thankful For:
President-Elect Barack Obama has less than 60 days until he is President Barack Obama. Whether you voted for the guy or not it’s always exciting to have a change in administration. This is an opportunity for our country to come together to address the future challenges we as a nation and global community face. Even though our economy is in a precarious situation and many in the nation worry about the immediate future, we can all be thankful that we are part of a free, democratic society that entrusts its people’s decisions to lead. Mr. President-Elect, we salute you!
The Phoenix Metro Light Rail has been a vision for Phoenix for a long time and its debut is almost here. Set to begin transit December 26th, the 20-mile initial light rail will take commuters through parts of downtown Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. Starting at Bethany Home Road to Mesa’s Main Street near Dobson, the Metro Light Rail will usher in a more environmentallyfriendly way to get around the Valley. Future extensions include parts of the northwest Valley, central Mesa, south and central Tempe, northeast Phoenix, and Glendale. If you work, play, or live in any of these areas, the light rail is your answer to a greener way to commute. This Night Owl plans on using it a lot and I hope you all do too. The Metro Light Rail is a chance to make the greater-Phoenix area a modern metropolis. Happy riding!
Tempe Thanksgiving Block Party is something to do on Turkey Day besides sitting around and listing to family bickering, and for that we are very thankful. For a can of food you can get your family out of the house to enjoy music, games, rides, and fireworks. The event is from 6 –10pm, Thanksgiving Day, and your can food donations will benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank. Plus, this event is the kickoff to the 29th Annual Pros Elite Soccer Tournament weekend, November 28th-30th. This Thanksgiving, the only thing your family will bicker about is what to do next.
The beautiful weather is always something to be thankful for, especially this time of year. Sure we have to deal with 110˚ temperatures for three months, but we will never shovel snow from our driveways, or have to worry about being snowed-in. Yes, fellow Night Owls this is one of the best times of years for us, and we should be thankful for our warm winters and year-long sunshine.
Britney Spears getting her act together. It seemed that Britney could never return from her departure from reality. A shaved head, an umbrella fueled tantrum, and a nasty custody battle seemed to have been the end of the line for the pop-tart, but she cleaned up her act, dumped the loser paparazzi beau, grew some hair, got visitation and is looking better than ever. Maybe she can talk to Amy Winehouse. Can’t wait for your new album, Circus, to drop December 2nd.
Be safe, be a good person. Till next time…
