Cinco de Mayo is upon us and luckily we live in Arizona, because let me just say that a Cinco de Mayo celebrated in Kentucky would just be filled with the same old chicken. But being border with Mexico gives us a chance to go almost anywhere and be able to find a mustached sombrero man - and really, who can ask for anything more.
The Sandbar May 1st, 2nd and 5th
The Sandbar still holds its place among party cantinas and “Cinco de Sandbar,” is a clue as to why. The celebration starts on the 1st and continues on to the 5th! The day has finally come when you can show off your gym obsession because Saturday will be host to a Strong-Man Contest, so don’t embarrass yourself or your friends will disown you. Both the Scottsdale and Chandler locations will be holding another infamous Dodge ball Tournament in its sand-filled parking lot. This is the real deal; we’re talking a $1000 grand prize! Which makes the saying “it’s not about winning it’s how you play the game,” not worth its salt. Wednesday will be host to live music from Island Magic Steel Drum Band, drink specials and a party atmosphere. The Chandler location will be doing something a bit, um, different… think Chihuahua races and taco eating contests, cause the two go hand-in-hand so nicely. 480.998.8845 Scottsdale Location
Devil’s Advocate Bar & Grill Wed May 5th
Devil’s Advocate is giving the Mexican bars a run for their money with their Cinco de Mayo. What got my attention at first was hearing the Crash Kings are headlining! You may have heard their hit new song “Mountain Man,” with the chorus of “I’m sipping on some sunshine…”being played on 103.9 on repeat for one and one reason onlycause its awesome. Jason Devore of Authority Zero will be joining them as well as Jon Foreman of Switchfoot who will be playing some acoustic. The Dry River Yacht Club will also be performing - and let me say that I was taken back by the first song I heard off their Myspace. It was like a mysterious, catchy, hot gypsy sounding mess - and I was into it. Not a bad line up right? Now go ahead and add a dunk tank, a mechanical bull, drink specials, and you get happiness. 480.921.2585 Tempe
Salty Senorita Wed May 5th
Salty’s will be throwing “Circo de Mayo,” a carnival themed party. Be prepared for a re-vamped sound stage, island bars, outdoor grills and 10,000 sq feet of party space expanded onto the parking lot. Trailer Park will be kicking off the music followed by one of LA’s favorite cover bands, The Spazzmatics. A cool perk is that Salty’s in North Scottsdale will be providing a free shuttle service up to the Old Town location so you can catch the show! I feel like this kind gesture may turn into a party bus extravaganza - I hope so anyway. 480.946.SALTY Scottsdale Location |
