Unsung Heroes
Hello Arizona faithful…I hope you enjoyed this Super Bowl weekend as much as I did. With all the confetti raining from the rafters and the trophy being raised, this is normally a time when we fans sit back and day dream about the years of glory that the Suns, D-Backs, and most recently the Cardinals have had. A lot of fans around the Phoenix area complain about how lousy the state of the franchises in Arizona are since the Suns and Cards seem so far from the top of their leagues sometimes with their play.
Well, fans let me give you a little exciting perspective to look forward to…Arizona Sports isn’t really in that bad of shape. In the last four years, the Phoenix Mercury won 2 WNBA championships. The Arizona Rattlers lost on the final play of the Arena Bowl, the Coyotes nearly upset the legendary Red Wings in the NHL playoffs by pushing them to a game 7, and 2011 saw the D-Backs almost make a run at the World Series by pushing the Brewers to the brink. Sometimes the Arizona fans, myself included, can get caught up in the world of the Suns and Cardinals – and forget about the unsung teams that often lay in the shadows.
For example, one of the greatest basketball players ever to play the game is right here in Phoenix and has not only led teams to gold medals, but has won NCAA titles and brought 2 to Phoenix…Diana Taurasi anyone?
